A Night of Fun

Hi everyone! Happy Wednesday. Hope everyone is safe from Hurricane Sandy. My prayers go out to everyone affected by it.

Better late than never as this was a night to remember. Weeks ago, I attended a wedding / renewal of vows. The venue and decor was superb. It was definitely a night of fun as the DJ kept entertaining us with songs from the 90s mixed with current hits and Nigerian greatest hits. For the special occasion, I chose a Mango 'flowy' dress with floral details at the bottom...simple yet fun for the event.

Tartan World

Hi everyone! Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend.

It is Monday but it feels like Saturday because schools and businesses are closed as a result of hurricane Sandy. My office is closed and I am taking advantage of the prolonged weekend and I hope everyone is staying safe. At the moment, I am multitasking watching lifetime movies, blogging and catching up on my fashion magazines. I can’t help but notice prints such as plaids and tartans in each magazine I flip through. Tartan prints is a growing trend this fall from the scarves to shirts, sweaters and pants and nothing feels more like a holiday spirit than the these prints I am wearing in this post.

Tips for styling peplum pieces

Peplums will be a major trend this Fall/Winter. I am a big fan of peplums and how they accentuate the waist. Below are ways that I have styled my peplum tops in the past and also, some tips to consider when shopping or styling peplum pieces.

Styling with skirts for work or business occassions
Things to consider when styling peplum pieces.
  • Choose the right peplum for your body type. Make sure it does not sit too high or too low at the waist. It is best on the natural waistline because this will accentuate your curves while preventing your upper torso from looking shorter. For an hourglass look, wear peplums with fuller details.
  • If you wear a fuller peplum on top, keep the bottom fitted and smooth.
  • Also, consider the fit, texture and pattern when putting together peplum pieces.
  • It is great to always pair peplum outfits with high-heeled shoes to give an appearance of a longer frame.
  • When in doubt, peplum tops can perfectly be combined with pencil skirts, shorts or cigarette pants. For work, you can wear a peplum blouse with a midi skirt and tailored blazer for fall. Pair this outfit with pointy-toe pumps for a classy look.
Here are some peplums to consider...

Burgundy Black

Hi everyone! Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

The weather in Maryland is so funny with the way it fluctuates between extremely cold and spring-like temperatures. While the weather is unpredictable, I always try to stick to my pattern of infusing colors this fall. Lately, I have been posting pictures of my work outfits taken with my iPhone on Facebook.
One of the colors that has become a staple in my style is Burgundy and this is definitely my new black.
This fall, don't be afraid to embrace burgundy. It is a way of adding color to fall/winter styles in a calm and warm tone. If you are not sure what to pair it with, consider black. You can never go wrong paring Black and Burgundy.

Is this the next "IT" bag?

Could this be the new "it" bag? After noticing the simplicity and the unique structure of this bag, it left me wondering if the Sophie Hulme Tote Bag with Goldplate Hardware is in line to become the next Celine Luggage tote. Designered by an up and coming British designer, Sophie Hulme's bag is suddenly becoming the next "IT" bag. Lately, I have observed more fashionistas caring this bag. Time will tell if this bag is here to make a statement.

What are your thoughts? You can get it here

Fall Print

Hi everyone! How is your week going so far?

I have had this dress in my closet for almost two years without wearing it. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to wear it to a wedding in San Diego. The floral print was perfect for the fall season and nothing compares to my obsession for floral prints. I love incorporating floral prints into my fall pieces which is awesome. The color and floral mix sets a fall tone.

Motif Sweaters

This is the season for sweaters and nothing is cuter than adding characters to your outfits in the form of motif sweaters. Yes, they are quirky, but interesting enough to spice up an outfit. These unique sweaters bring back great childhood memories. I am such a huge fan of 'motif' sweaters as seen in my previous posts here and here. They can be worn casually with jeans or formally with pencil skirts. Again, you don't have to break the bank to find a great pair. Check out these pieces from Forever 21 and Asos.

Work Transition

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend.

The transition from a warm weather to a colder one makes it difficult to switch work attires at times. This is where layering comes into play. The layering of dress shirts with sweaters is important to stay warm during cold weathers. You can easily be creative by integrating your summer pieces and you should absolutely try the look in this post. For this outfit, I incorporated my summer peplum top (seen here) and paired it with a cute JCrew sweater. Since it is not cold enough to dig out the tights, I wore just the pencil skirt. Maintaining a neutral look throughout the outfit, I went with the Zara bag and pumps pictured.

So Far...Instagram

Here is a recap of my week on Instagram. For me, instagram is a way of sharing random pictures of my life, quick snap shots of my work outfits and outfits that never make it on the blog.

I don't think I am addicted yet...I think!; but I have my obsessed moments. You can find out here

Neon Black

Hello everyone! How was your week? Hope the week has been good to you.

It is finally Friday…phew! I am ready to kick off my shoes, get my laptop and a bowl of Haagen Dazs Pineapple Coconut Ice Cream. Of course, I will be catching up on the episodes of ‘90210’ I have missed. For me, Fridays are always exciting and the opportunity to dress down is relaxing (my casual Fridays). I trade-in dress pants and skirts for a casual look to seal the deal. Usually, a pair of jeans is always my first pick when it comes to looking casual...preferably skinny ankle jeans. On this post, I added a v-neck tee and the neon Christian Louboutin for color. Finally, I threw on a boyfriend blazer to tie both worlds together i.e. my casual look and formal look.

My long weekend has finally come to an end and I can feel the cold fall weather. I need to scramble to buy sweaters and coats currently lacking in my closet. The cold weather is making me miss San Diego - warm and sunny San Diego. The outfit in this post is the same outfit I wore for the wedding that I attended in San Diego (check out the video here). I love the big bow, length and color of the Aqua by aqua skirt. I absolutely love the fit and I wore a similar skirt in purple here last year. With a bold detail on the skirt, I decided to keep the top simple and classy...completing the look with a statement necklace in emerald to balance the orange color of the skirt.
